Course Description
Target Audience: Patrol officers, School Resource Officers (SROs), and dispatch-adjacent staff.
Description: This course provides law enforcement personnel with essential tools to improve interactions with autistic individuals. Students will learn how to recognize observable indicators of autism across age, race, and gender; apply communication adaptations that reduce escalation risks; and use stepwise de-escalation strategies tailored to sensory needs. The course also ADA compliance, documentation practices, and ways to connect individuals and families to community resources. Delivered through briefing-room instruction and realistic role play, this training emphasizes officer safety, community trust, and practical field application.
