Course Description

Target Audience: Managers and supervisors in law enforcement support units, including records, property and evidence, administrative services, compliance, and other professional staff divisions.

Description: Managing a support unit in law enforcement requires more than technical
knowledge. It requires leadership, accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to manage people and risk at the same time.

This full-day course prepares managers to lead professional staff with confidence and
consistency. Students will learn how to:

  • Supervise supervisors and experienced line-level staff
  • Address performance and conduct issues early and professionally
  • Establish defensible documentation practices
  • Implement practical quality control and internal review processes
  • Prioritize workload in deadline-driven environments
  • Identify and correct recurring operational problems

The course blends leadership principles with realistic law enforcement scenarios. Discussion and exercises are built around the everyday challenges managers face, including workflow backlogs, inconsistent supervision, documentation concerns, quality control issues, and audit readiness.
